Alana M. Fuierer, Esq.
is a registered patent attorney with Heslin Rothenberg Farley and Mesiti,
PC. In 2006, Ms. Fuierer moved to
Rochester, New York and initiated the opening of the firm’s Rochester satellite
office, where she has been practicing ever since. Her practice includes patent, copyright and
trademark litigation, as well as patent prosecution, with technical experience
in the areas of chemistry, bioremediation, environmental microbiology,
hydrology, contaminant transport, materials and semiconductor design.
In 2005, Ms. Fuierer
joined with Victor Cardona, Esq. and co-founded the firm’s Cleantech Group, one
of the first legal practice groups in the country to focus on intellectual
property rights in clean energy and other environmental technologies. As Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the Cleantech
Group, Ms. Fuierer helped develop the Clean Energy Patent Growth Index (CEPGI),
which has gained national recognition for the firm. She continues to assist the firm in growing
the firm’s business in Rochester and western New York, as well as the Cleantech
practice group.
In 2006, Ms. Fuierer was
co-counsel on a federal
litigation in a California district court that returned a $7.8 million jury
verdict of copyright infringement and trade secret misappropriation.
Ms. Fuierer has been a
practicing, registered patent attorney since 2002. Prior to joining Heslin Rothenberg Farley
& Mesiti, PC., Ms. Fuierer was a staff attorney with the United States
Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.
She graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctorate from the State University
of New York at Buffalo 1995, where she served on the Buffalo Law Journal as a
Executive Editor. Ms. Fuierer also has
a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the State University of New York at
Geneseo (1992) and a Master's degree in Hydrology from New Mexico Institute of
Mining and Technology (2001). She is
admitted to practice in New York, U.S. District Courts for New York’s Northern,
Southern, and Eastern Districts, the Second Circuit and Ninth Circuit Court of
Appeals, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and
Trademark Office.
Ms. Fuierer is a member
of the Monroe County Bar Association, Rochester Intellectual Property
Association, Rochester Women’s Network, and Greater Rochester Association of
Women Attorneys. Ms. Fuierer also
co-founded and is President of The Grant Fund for SIDS, Inc. and serves on the
Board of SIDS Support, Inc. in Rochester, NY.
She also serves as Associate Editor of Clean Tech Law & Business. In
2008, Ms. Fuierer was awarded the 2008 Up and Coming Business Leaders Award by
the Rochester Women’s Network.
