Opting for law school over medical school, and a life on the east coast rather than the west coast, the path to a career in intellectual property law has been scenic for Caroline Ahn, an Associate in the firm’s Albany, NY office where she has a diverse practice in litigation, copyright and trademark protection and licensing, and internet law.
Originally on a pre-med track, Caroline focused her academic studies in the sciences, including doing undergraduate research in a pathology laboratory for several years. After earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and a minor in Classical Studies from University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, however, Caroline decided to plunge into the “real world” during the height of the dot.com bubble.
Caroline worked in the Internet industry for the next several years, starting in technical support and then taking on managerial roles and moving up to a support operations specialist position with a national broad band provider. It was during this period of time when Caroline was introduced to intellectual property law and her interest in law relating to technology piqued. Determined to pursue a career in intellectual property, Caroline headed to law school, leaving the west coast where she had spent most of her life.
Caroline first joined Heslin Rothenberg Farley & Mesiti in 2005 as a law clerk while attending law school. Caroline’s career has merged her interest in technology and the internet with the law, and she has been able to apply her past professional experiences directly to her legal practice. As an associate with the firm, Caroline works collaboratively to protect our clients’ intellectual property rights.
When not working, Caroline enjoys spending time with her husband and friends, which often involves various games, croquet, trivia, and lots of food. Caroline also enjoys traveling, reading, watching movies, playing sports and collecting fabulous shoes. She is also on the Board of the Justice For All campaign, for the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York, Inc.
