Although he calls Saratoga Springs home now, John Boger, the newest Member of our firm and chair of our Medical Products IP Group, has spent a good portion of his life living in Western and Central New York. Growing up in Rush, New York, a small community outside of Rochester, John spent almost seven years, although not consecutively, in Syracuse, initially getting his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering at Syracuse University and returning ten years later to attend Syracuse College of Law.

During those intervening ten years, John obtained his Masters Degree in Biomedical Engineering (and skiing) at the University of Utah. Following graduation, he went on to work as a product development engineer, designing orthopedic implants and instruments in Warsaw, Indiana. John also worked in marketing and, later in his tenure, helped run an advanced biomaterial joint venture.

Benefitting from his “real life” industry and in-house legal experience, he knows first-hand what it is like to be on the “other side of the table.” John understands his clients’ needs to compete in the highly competitive corporate world of medical product development and sales. John’s practice focus is helping both large and small businesses, as well as individual inventors, protect their medical technology while building value in their inventions.

When John is not traveling between our Rochester and Albany offices, he actively supports the MedTech organization and is involved with the SmartStart Venture Forum advisory committee. Outside of the office, John keeps busy with his two active children skiing, golfing, fishing, coaching youth lacrosse and building ice skating rinks.
