WASHINGTON, DC – The Innovation Alliance, a coalition of companies seeking to enhance America’s innovation environment by improving the quality of patents and protecting the integrity of the U.S. patent system,today pointed to the recently released “Clean Energy Patent Growth Index,” as evidence of the importance of strong patent protections as an incentive for the development of green technologies. The 2008 Clean Energy Patent Growth Index listed 928 clean energy patents for solar, wind, hybrid/electric vehicles, fuel cells, hydroelectric, tidal/wave, geothermal, biomass/biofuels and other renewable energy technologies. The number is up from 700 patents in 2002, when the survey began.
