The USPTO has announced significant administrative and programmatic reductions in the current fiscal year, following the April 15th enactment of the Full Year Continuing Appropriations Act, 2011.

Through September 30, 2011, total fiscal year spending authority is limited to $2.09 billion. This figure represents a $100 million reduction in available funding for patent office operations. As a result, hiring is frozen, IT projects scaled-back, Track One of the expedited examination program is postponed, opening of the Detroit satellite office is deferred, PCT outsourcing is reduced, training is cut, and employee overtime is suspended.
