Nanotech

Researchers in nanotechnology pay close attention to minute details. Protecting their ideas requires the same skill set – with an eye for the big picture as well. That is but one of our strengths. Just as important, we carefully attend to the details of idea protection while proactively aiming at the “big picture”: effective commercialization of those ideas.

Nanotechnology, multidisciplinary in nature, has emerged as a driver of innovation. The Nanotechnology Group meets the needs of clients for Intellectual Property protection of such innovations in the field of nanotechnology. Bringing together patent professionals with diverse technical degrees, the Nanotechnology Group builds upon the firm’s extensive experience in technologies like microelectronics, chemistry, and biotechnology.

Jeff Rothenberg, the managing partner of the firm and co-chair of the Nanotechnology Group has prosecuted patent applications in the fields of nanotechnology, microelectronics, optics, computer graphics and simulations, and mechanical devices, and was a presenter at the 2003 Albany Symposium on Global Nanotechnology on the topic of Intellectual Property Issues of Industry Cooperation and Strategic Partnerships. Wayne F. Reinke is a partner and co-chair of the Nanotechnology Group, has patent experience in fields including microelectronics, nanotechnology, and computer software, and participated in the 2005 Albany Symposium on the topic of IP Strategy to Drive Revenue. David A. Pascarella has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in the fields of Micro-Electro-Mechanical optical switches, and methods and systems for delivering fluid to and sensing properties of cells using carbon nanotubes. Other members of the group include Kevin Radigan, and John Pietrangelo.

In 2005, the Nanotechnology Group arranged for a series of in-house tutorials by SUNY/Albany Nanotech researchers providing an overview of the state of the art in their respective research areas. The tutorials included topics, such as nanoelectronics, nanolithography and spintronics.

Members of the Nanotechnology Group have pursued patent protection in the following areas:

  • Nanostructures
  • Nanocomposite materials
  • Thin films
  • Quantum dots
  • Spintronics
  • Lithography
  • MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems)
