Patent Prosecution Associate or Patent Agent – Mechanical/Biomedical Engineering

We are seeking an Associate Attorney or Patent Agent to join our intellectual property practice in our Rochester or Albany office. This is an in-office position offering hands-on responsibility and direct interaction with inventors and clients, particularly in the mechanical and biomedical engineering technology areas.
Qualifications:
- 3–4 years of substantive patent prosecution experience
- Strong technical background in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field
- Admission to the USPTO (Patent Bar required)
- For attorney candidates:
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Admission to at least one U.S. state bar
- Experience drafting and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented practice
Responsibilities:
- Draft and prosecute U.S. and foreign patent applications in mechanical and biomedical technologies
- Prepare Office Action responses and conduct examiner interviews for patent applications
- Directly advise clients on patentability and prosecution strategy
- Manage patent portfolios and related deadlines with direct communication with clients
- Communicate directly with clients, inventors, and foreign associates related to client patent portfolio management
